The electronic media and entertainment super show returns to the RAI Amsterdam with new topics to discuss and the latest technology to explore.
With over 55,000 attendees, 1,700 exhibitors and an extensive conference and events programme, IBC can be a daunting experience even for seasoned visitors. That being the case, we’ve put together some of the new features you won’t want to miss, picked a few conference hot topics that are sure to get the debate started and highlighted some old favourites that will once again draw the crowds.
Building on the success of last year’s IP Interoperability Zone, the IP Showcase is described as a one-stop destination where everyone from broadcast/IT engineers and chief executives to TV producers can learn everything they need to know to unlock the full potential of using IP for real-time media. More than 40 vendors will work together to demonstrate real-world IP interoperability while the IP Showcase theatre, curated by IABM, will be running a series of presentations covering real-time IP production and intra-facility distribution.
Also new for 2017 is the invitation-only C-Tech Forum, a series of micro events for C-level executives within media and broadcasting taking place on 15-16 September. Topics up for discussion at the inaugural event are Cyber Security and the advent of 5G.
Also in focus this year is Sport. While this isn’t a new subject for IBC, it is being covered in a different way with a full day of sessions on the Sunday taking place in the Forum. Conference sessions will discuss issues including ‘New Tech Pushing Boundaries’, fan engagement and the rise of fast-paced alternative sports such as Rugby 7s and Twenty20 cricket.
Taking a slightly different angle, the IBC Conference will also cover the rise of eSports, asking if they are ‘The New Broadcast Game?’. With a global market estimated in 2016 to top $463 million, find out about the challenges and opportunities associated with this growing field on 14 September at 12:40 in the Forum.
Another timely topic up for discussion is fake news. In ‘Creation, Consumption & Corruption: The New Architecture of News’ broadcaster and journalist Andrew Neil will chair a panel looking at how organisations from CNN to NBC and Dow Jones are re-casting their business models around news-gathering, audience engagement and storytelling in order to thrive in a world of instant information online where fake news can be shared with millions of people in a matter of seconds.
Emerging ways to solve the problem of fake news will then be covered in ‘Fake News or Alternative Facts? Producing News Content in a Post-Truth World.’
Of course IBC isn’t just about the conference sessions. The showfloor will once again be filled with the latest technology covering all areas of the electronic media and entertainment industry. Don’t forget to stop by the ever-popular Future Zone, where this year the focus is on multi-sensory virtual worlds and imagery of the future. Step through the Future Zone ‘time tunnel’ to explore mixed reality, 3D audio, video displays and holographic projections. In addition the Launch Pad in Hall 9 brings together IBC’s newest exhibitors.
Awe Creative will be at IBC for the duration of the show. To arrange an appointment contact jo@beaconcreativeservices.com or pop by the IBC Daily room (E.102) at the RAI where we’ll be working on this year’s show newspaper.
