Heading out to Prolight+Sound this week? We take a look at some of the show highlights you won’t want to miss.
As many of us prepare to head out to Frankfurt for the 2017 edition of Prolight+Sound we take a look at some of the main talking points of the event, from show floor tech to conference sessions and special events.
For 2017, the information and training events at Prolight + Sound have been regrouped under the name Prolight+Sound Conference. This will be subdivided into three main sections: event technology, media systems and VDT Academy.
Highlights of the conference programme look set to include ‘Sound technology: planning of sound systems’ at 10:30 on Tuesday. Satis&fy’s Volker Ruf will offer attendees tips and useful approaches for the theory and practice of sound system design, looking at a wide range of issues including mechanical considerations and the advantages and disadvantages of various types and constellations of loudspeaker.
At midday on Wednesday the hot topic of 3D audio will be under the spotlight in ‘Psychoacoustic foundations and technical realisation of sound design in space’. And no event would be complete without an update on networking. This is supplied on Thursday by DirectOut’s Claudio Becker-Foss in ‘AV media technology: network technologies in AV technology’, which will provide an overview of the current situation.
Meanwhile in the Outdoor Sound Arena, manufacturers including Funktion-One, KV2 and db Technologies will be presenting their PA and line array solutions under realistic conditions.
But it’s not all about audio. In the Moving Picture Pavillion, visitors will be able to see demonstrations of numerous ready-to-use and fully functional production chains – from camera through to live distribution. Manufacturers including Sony, Panasonic, Blackmagic and Litepanels will be showing the latest technologies and how they function together to create complete end-to-end solutions for all requirements – from low budget to high-end productions.
When it comes to technology, a number of manufacturers are showing new and updated products. Alcons Audio will highlight a wide-dispersion version of the LR28 larger format line array and an extension of the QR24 series, the company’s modular high output line source column; L-Acoustics will preview the P1 digital audio processor; and Adam Hall’s LD Systems will showcase the MAUI 5 GO, which it says is world’s first mobile, battery-powered column-PA system.
In addition, Christie will launch Pandoras Box Octo Server, an addition to the Pandoras Box show control product line; Outline is debuting the Newton – a full-featured, FPGA-based Multi Media Nucleus that is said to take technology convergence for AV systems to the next level; and PMC is showing the latest additions to its Main Monitor range – the MB3 and BB6 active Advanced Transmission Line loudspeakers.
Prolight+Sound 2017 takes place from 4-7 April at Messe Frankfurt Exhibition Centre.
